In Paul Frere's 1st edition technical/historical masterpiece, 'Porsche 911 Story' a stainless steel 'silencer' (sounds like one of those translation 'funnies' to me) is mentioned as a reliability/durability 'upgrade' for the '74 model year, so it would appear that you have discovered something GOOD about a 2.7, for a change!
