Mambodave, definitely sounds like oil pump. I recal that if the check engine light is on then it's not critical, if it's flashing then stop engine immediately. If no more bad sounds then you should be safe driving directly to a dealer/shop. LR dealers here bend over backwards to help when your truck is in warranty but once the honeymoon is over the gloves come off.

Lots of harsh comments from everyone. Don't get me wrong I was happy to see our 99 DII go, but like david914 said, they are terrific when running right. Contrary to what 350HP said I did a good 6 months research on the LRs before I committed. Found that post 96 the Disco reliability got more respectable, with 94-96 being the worst years. Nearly every Disco owner I ran into said they loved the truck. And upholding LR tradition they have a very heavy duty chassis and do extremely well off road. As already noted resale is enough to make you cry.
