After my mom passed on (hi mom, love ya) I decided to make sure I'd preserve my family history by scanning all my family's slides and pictures and storing disk in an organized manner....to CD or DVD. That process has begun as my father and I organize the source material.

That part seems to be straight forward.

My question is on how to convert non audio 8mm and Super 8mm film to DVD. When looking into the technology years ago I saw a plastic box with a translucent screen. From what I gathered you'd project the movie into this box and onto it's screen while simultaneously recording the movie with your camcorder. BTW, this was before DVD was available.

So, any recommendations on the best way to convert with the fewest steps possible. The projection box seems archaic and I want the highest quality possible.
