I think I would start here on Unit 5. It may be helpful to search the Windows Help in XP
Hit START > HELP & SUPPORT and enter "XP Firewall" in the Search box at the top of the page. There will be a link to "Enable or disable Internet Connection Firewall" under Pick A Task". Click that and it will take you where you need to be to disable it.
I agree that this just may not do it for you, but it's a good place to start. IMHO
