In our local (NNJR) PCA rag, someone wrote a piece about the new owners and their lack of appreciation for Porsche tradition. Blamed the company for not communicating the headlight flash thing, for example.
I have flashed my damn lights at a dozen Porsches in the last few weeks, and only ONE has acknowledged! It was a recent car, maybe a 993. Never a Boxster, never a 996 or even a 964. I continue to try, but I'm dismayed.
I never drive my car without being constantly aware of what and how cool it is. Maybe it's just pride, or the novelty of new ownership, but these other guys seem about as enthused as I am when I drive my dark green Ford Explorer - that's sad.
Lots of people think I'm loaded now, thanks to the Porsche. I don't mind the impression, but they really miss the point. When I introduced myself at a recent PCA meeting, I got lots of friendly grins when I said I was having fun getting my hands dirty. That's the kind of appreciation I really want!
