Computer geek as well. The thing is, in my situation, I am frequently meeting with vendors and consultants. No, I never meet actual customers (at least in an official sense...I run in to them on a daily basis), but I appreciate that I don't have to wear a suit. At the other end of our complex is one of our many call centers, and those people are occasionally allowed to wear jeans. This being our corporate headquarters, I feel it cheapens our image to vendors and to other employees who are in from across the country (and are not allowed to wear jeans, ever).
If we were more of a pure tech firm, I think jeans would be okay. But in our business, I think that business casual is the lowest we should go.
