A lot of antique car buffs (such as myself) put a lot of weight on originality, so I would definitely spring for the correct radio for your car if you can afford it and originality is something you're after.

Something that I've done with my 1938 Buick is to install both the factory original radio and an aftermarket radio....the original is one of the centeropieces of the dash (chrome grill, art deco knobs, etc) but for all of its grandeur it is still an old tube type AM radio. So I have one of the voltage converters that id10t mentioned powering a CD unit I installed in my glove box. That way the originality is still there but I can listen to legit music rather than talk radio.
