For the real engine number dweebs, you can also check to see if the crankcase halves match!
To do this, you'll have to wait until engine rebuild time, or at least, when you have the induction system/alternator/cooling shroud off the engine...
Assuming you are down to the bare top of the engine case, look carefully at the top centre of the case, where a couple of the outer case bolts are. Scrape away the oily grime and you'll see a three digit number on each case half.
If the numbers match, then the left hand case half "belongs" to the right hand case half...
This information may be useful if you are ever considering buying a used engine block.
