Same here...when I was in the market 10 years ago, I was set on a 72 or 73S. At the time, for budget reasons I was looking for a clean "driver" in the <$12K range (preferably $10K-ish, remembering this was 1990, I was 23 at the time). The really sweet cars were out of range and I didn't look at them.
After 3-4 months of pretty diligent searching, nada. I finally "settled" for my 70 E Targa (around $8K), and the rest is history. I sure would still LOVE to have a perfect 72/73S (or an RS, in my dreams) but in reality I kinda doubt I will do the early 911 thing again. More likely I will hang onto the E and pick up a 993 or something else "more modern" to add to the motor pool when funds permit.
