Can you now open the trunk lid?
Trunk lid sheet metal is not real beefy. It sounds like you shouldn't have had to force the trunk lid closed. Perhaps one of the gas struts decided to freeze up or something is blocking a hinge. Check it out as it doesn't sound "normal."
