Expedition is my wife's daily driver. She insisted on another SUV to replace our Discovery. No way would she even consider looking at a mini van. In her words they look "lame". It's true the SUV and Mini van answer the same question - to us the SUV has a more sporting/purposeful look and for that 5% of the time we're off in 4x mode it really shines.

Frankly I don't undertand folks here even questioning this. You all made a similar decision in getting a Porsche vs. some other car. Sure some of you race or rally your cars, but how many really push the performance envelope to justify having one? Probably as much, or less than, we do the 4x aspect of our Expedition.
