Very Cool! Thanks for the info. It explains a LOT. I reloaded XP and my problem went away. I couldn't figure out why because I didn't do a total reformat. But-because I reloaded, I did away with all my restore points which are contained in the System Volume Information folder. Once those went away-so did the virus which was attached to a restore file. Slimy b*stards.
