Boy does that sound familiar.... Mine was a step-father who couldn't let go of the disciplinarian role... always using "I only do it because I care" to justify his actions...
So my advice? Sure you can point out something that bothers you but understand early relationships rarely last, so treat it as it is, temporary. ...and mention your concerns once or twice, don't do it every time they're over.
He's 14 right? they'll be done in a few weeks anyhow.
