I just went thru this with my 83SC, my O2 went bad, took it to the shop, was told I
really didn't need it, they unplugged it.
I got conflicting advice on unplugging it,
got worried, ordered new one and hooked it
back up.I then got the final word on MY car
and unplugged it.SOME cars do better without
it.The hot miss you have isn't O2 related,
more likely plug wire, plug or ignition.
