I've heard this as well. Also, I was told by EVERY "sales person" that plasma screens are not fixable. If they burn out, through the tv away.

The problem (for me) with SD/regular TiVo is you loose all HD capability while using it - thus taking your expensive HD tv to mere SD quality. Probably 80% of my viewing is broadcast in HD. Despite the cost, for me, HD TiVo is a must and a purchase I haven't regretted once.
