I think that there are many people who fit into either of two camps.
One of which would look at a highly refined performance vehicle that you could use everyday, such as the 996, and say "what a colossal waste of money."
The other of which would look at a purely ornamental piece of manufactured, contrived sentimentality, that will spend most of its time locked in a box, such as a diamond necklace, and say "what a colossal waste of money."
