Thanks everybody for your responses. Yesterday I actually "observed" the mechanic
perform this "complicated" task ! Geez, can't figure why all the hype over the phone. The oil adding procedure that he ACTUALLY performed consisted of adding 6 quarts, then started the car. Added another 3 with the engine running. Then drove the car, getting the temp into the operating range. Then, with the car running, slowly added enough oil to bring the quantity guage up to the top of the white arch. That amounted to exactly an additional 1 quart.
The process of changing the filter: of the 5 vehicles I own, the 930 has by far, the easiest access to the filter itself, and is certainly the quickest to change . The timing was not right, or I would have really ribbed him as to this complicated process of filter changing .
