Im not so much concerned with interior noise, in fact I happen to prefer to be able to hear that cool whining sound from the gear box. I think it puts you more in tune with the mechanics of your car. Lets you hear whats really goin on in there ya know? (LOL)

So overall it sounds like shifting performance is the biggest benefit and noise is the only draw back.

The question still remains though on the stress issue. Is this something to be concerned about on a mild to moderate use DE car. I dont want to weaken the chassis of the car from doing this.
