I had two cats, both of the same 'family' (uncle/nephew) that both developed urinary tract / kidney issues. One almost died. They both ended up obese because of the condition (20+ pounds)
But prescription diet food helped them live fairly long lives. In fact the nephew, Junior, lived until he was about 16.
