I've done a LOT of autox and timed laps, and anything over 10 degrees of slip angle and you're going slower, just like what z-man says. I have telemetry to prove it.

Z-man, F1 cars (or any cars with heavy reliance of rear wings) can't pass 5 degrees or so of slip angle, as it affects rear downforce, and ultimately rear grip dramatically. That's why it's VERY rare to see a F1 car get twitchy around a high speed corner while maintaining most of it's speed. Usually it spins off hard, or a LOT of speed is lost if there's recovery. A very fast lap in a F1 car is very boring, zero drama.
