I've got an '85 Carrera with air conditioning. If I want to get the housing & filter out, don't struggle with it... just loosen the air conditioner hose attachment which secures the hose to the engine lid on that side.... you'll have lots more room & it'll only take a minute to move that hose out of your way. Study how the front latches work since you won't be able to see the rear latches. Also, make sure you're putting the filter in the right way.
