With 4-5 days to work with, I wouldn't spend more than 2 in the Monterey area. One day for golf, one to kick around Carmel with the wife. A day in the wine country, spend the night in Calistoga and check it out.
If you can find more than 4-5 days, there's plenty to do. Tahoe and Yosemite are awesome...
