Twenty years ago I too got a real steal on an old one (69 912), towed it to California and found it later it was rusted through all over. Beware if you want to use it as a regular driver car. RUST ?!! The guy I bought it from in New Jersey had "fixed" it with about 200lbs of BONDO and an Earl Scheib paint job. It looked great but I was a neophyte then. Within a month the suspension a-arm bolts had pulled out and the whole suspension went thump-thump as I drove along, I put my foot through both the floor and the running boards, pieces snapped off in my hand and paint started flaking off everywhere! I believe Porsche didn't start galvanizing body panels until about 1974 so RUST would eat everything if you lived in snow country. The other guys are right though... even if it has rust the other parts may be worth selling off but use the magnet test for rust if you want to drive it.
