I had a 73 targa with a very minor leak. Switched to synthetic and soon after developed multiple leaks, esp. from flywheel seal area. It was gradual until after a thirty mile run I lost five quarts of oil. Had to change the clutch (oil soaked) and of course the flywheel seal. Changed back to dino and never looked back. In addition I left 3/4 of a quart of synthetic in my glove box with the cap tightly screwed on- leaked every where. See a trend?
As stated you can look long enough to find a story to support your point, but personally I would never put sythetic in an older car.
