Lots of noise in a drive train when there is no road resistance.

AccDec (Acceleration/Decceleration) on the road is more important. A clunk in the drive train when AccDec'ing is a sure sign of a bad clutch disk. Could also be the coupling at the trans or a bad/loose CV joint(s).

When was the last time you changed your timing and balance belts and/or cam chain and tensioner?
