You may have incompatable media.

Go to the drive manufacturers website and get the latest drivers. The stuff that came in the box is probably out of date.

The manufacturer may also have a list of compatable media to use with their drive.

Don't buy the cheapest media that you can find, shop the circulars and buy name brand stuff when it's on sale and then buy a bit more than you have an immediate need for.

Cheap media = coasters. If you toss half of them then they were really not that cheap in the long run.

Not like I want to see the Mac debate start up again.

I do have to say I just burned 2 CDR's and a DVD on my Mac by

1) sticking in blank media

2) selecting my files

3) hit burn

Burning is integrated into OSX but I still use Roxio Toast, supports shared burners over a network, multiple burners on one computer allowing you to burn different data to different burners simultaneously, etc...

Pretty cool app.
