my cynical attitude with politics is to look beyond the immediate "position". As in the RNC jumping on the Terry death issue. I think this has put the DNC in a position similar to the gun ownership issue. ie: it's a no winner for the Dem's. Meaning the RNC wants a chunk of traditional Black and Hispanic, like 90%, Dem voter base. That mostly Christian base will now, maybe, consider "values"in politics. I'm not sure if the game will work, but the RNC is taking the gamble. I don't think either party would inflame an issue if they thought they couldn't manage the fallout. The RNC added fuel to an issue of moral uncertainty due to the war to flame the values vacuum of the Dem's. The picture is that the Dem's values can be considered "anything goes".

and every President has used "God" in a speech in one way or another. Bush just used the bully pulpit to fan the flames.

The current prob for the RNC is that Hillary makes clear speeches of right and wrong that appeal to the center of both parties. The RNC is probably hoping that jerks like Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosie, and Howard Dean will overpower Hillary.
