My decision to go with MegaSquirt was influenced by several things.

1. My crank triger sensors went bad and to replace them would have cost more then the MS system.

2. Fixing the sensors would have given me none of the things the MS offers.

3. Im supercharging the engine so I needed a way to tune the fuel maps.

4. I wanted to convert the airflow meter to something other then a barndoor system. MAF is a possibility. but with MS i get MAP for free basically. A completely unrestricted intake.

5. I like to mess with things. This car is not my daily driver so I can experiment and play. At some point I want to upgrade to a 968 6 speed tranny and possibly get a 3.0L bottom end at some point.. A 400-500HP rear wheel drive car with almost a 50/50 waight distribution and a 6 speed on top is something I've been wanting a long time. And I cant think of a better car to drive then a porsche.


So it made more sense to me to get the MS system that would let me use a 36 tooth crank triger with a distributorless ignition system and allows me to tune the engine with boost, and other thigns that are supoprted by the MSnS version of that system. Water injection, nitros control, traction control..... alot of fun things to play with. If i stayed with the stock system i'd had to convert to a turbo DME any way at some point to be able to handle boost. Some might say, why not sell it and get a turbo....well i could have....but then i wouldnt know every bolt and nut that im learning about every day.


Edit: Btw SoCal what do you think of the Krikit belt tensioning tool? I was gona go ahead and replace all the belts while I got the front end all appart (fitting a intercooler...man supra intercooler doesnt wana fit hehe) and I noticed your signiture mentiones a chaindrive that might need replacing, i need to look into that. I got my car about 7 years ago and I drove it for about 3 and it's been sitting here after I got married ( hehe sad isnt it) so I decided to resurect it, Im sure the belts need to be changed after sitting for so long, along with probably all of the rubber tubing, already a few of them dissinigrated in my hands while i was checking things over.
