The WRX Wagon is still available, although I am not sure how happy she would be moving from a Camry to the WRX. You should look at one of the new Legacy GT Wagons. I am not real fond of all the tacky add-on type stuff on the Outback. The new legacy has a de-tuned version of the 2.5 ltr turbo four that is in the STI.
I have over 20,000 miles on my WRX, mostly highway without any problems (which I would expect from just about any new car). My neighbor has 60,000 on his WRX, without any problems as well.
Go to the Subaru website and scheck out the Legacy GT, it might be AX worthy as well....
