Cool Just got a 914, but it needs help and so do I!!

Hey guys. I recently got a 1972 914 1.7L for free from my friends dad! He was planning on restoring it with his kids but unfortunately none of them were ever interested. I told the guy that my dad (Joe911) and I restored a '69 911S and he told me that if I would do the right thing with it he'd give it to me!! So thats the story.

He said that he installed a new clutch, replaced all the brakes (dont know if thats just pads or rotors or what), he did redo all the interior which look very nice!

So he bought it from the orig owner a few years ago but its been sitting in his drive since thanks to riceburner influenced kids My dad and I have a spare 914 tranny, welded diff, in the garage at home as well as the orig 2.0L 6 from the 69 911. so I may go the 914-6 route since I have access to the parts "free."

A few questions, though. There is some very nice rust from under the battery through the bottom of the car. I know this is a problem with these 914 from the engine cover being right over tha battery and the rain going right through. Is there some kind of pre fab panels I can buy and weld them in to reinforce? Also any other tips on rusty spots to look for and fix would be great as well as any websites that helped you guys along the way would be amazing!

Thank in advance for the help guys. Best regards, Joey Riley
