Was a newer model or one of the first few years? In 2004 Suby tinkered with something and the boost comes on significantly gentler. I can feel a definite difference between my neighbors 2002 and my 2004. It also has to do with the way it is driven too....
I have driven the STI as well, it is a night and day difference between the regualr WRX, much to same I would imagine as a 930 vs a 911 ( I have never driven a 930, as I don't want to get divroced when I buy the 930, as I am sure I would feel compelled to after driving it).
The great thing about the WRX is the ability to mod it. For $1500.00 I could buy a turbo back exhaust with a cat (with a small exhaust outlet, or even use my stock muffler) and an Accessport and have 271 HP. I have driven a Cobb Stage 2 WRX and man does it scream....
