Firewire is definitely the way to go, to agree with Thom. Here is a comparison between the two -

Record in MPEG2 format using Fireware. You can convert to MPEG4 later (aka DIVX) for compression purposes. One hour of MPEG2 will take approximately 3 gigs of hard drive space recorded at 720 x 480 29.97 fps. I always record at higher quality so I can take screen shots and have the option to compress later. The basic process I would suggest is setup your software (ULEAD v9) to record, connect using firewire, playback video and record direct to MPEG2, then you can edit and format the video using other programs from there.
