You should expect plenty of problem free miles with those motors. (my experience, anyway)
The one caveat is that the heads can get crevice-corrosion, if the coolant is maintained properly. I haven't had this problem with a couple different vanagons, both 170k+. . ...but then I maintain the coolant well.
