Wow, if you were going to join the two ends together, you might as well just delete the entire muffler and run a straight pipe. Don't see how much noise those holes will cut out if the pipe is joined, due to the pressure equilibrating and causing almost laminar flow anyhow. Do you have the original cat in there?
