Yes the pipes will be joined together creating a straight through muffler. The reasons I went with the stock muffler verses just cutting it off and welding on a pipe are.
1) I really like the looks of the original exhaust.
2) didn't want the "bling" of a new SS muffler
3) I was wondering what the inside of a 944 muffler looked like anyway
4) I will still have a stock exhaust to swap out quickly if I want to

The question of what to do with the cat will be part of phase II.
