Two sure ways to screw up a perfectly good relationship are (1) to let the power balance get out of whack and (2) to focus too much on money.

If the Porsche is important to you, by all means keep it -- you have got to do things to keep your own identity and happiness. The car is for you and the ring is for her; neither have to break the bank. If you sacrifice what you really want for her whims, I would think that is bad precedent.

If I were you, I would buy a gorgeous, diamond crusted ring with a .75 or 1 carat diamond on top. When she sees that wall of diamonds on her finger, they will think it is breathtaking and not notice that it is mostly made up of inexpensive smaller diamonds. Same with her buddies. The beauty is the thing, not the money. The whole thing will cost you under 10K if you go to a wholesaler. If her buddies scoff at a truly beautiful 1 carat package, she'll know them for what they really are.

I vote to keep both the car and the girl.
