Considering the population of NYC that kind of thing is going to happen in newsworthy quantities every single day of the year. The NYC murder rate is expected to be around 450 for the year, but has been consistently declining in recent years to historically low levels. That's 1.233 murders per day.
None of which matters if you are the HS student, the homeless man, the priest. No doubt the City touts the absence of guns as a causative factor, which isn't borne by evidence.
Last week was a bad week for murder. . . .
