Spent a week in Belize, but this was back in'73. Beautiful place, great diving & fishing. At that time another guy & I were traveling through by Land Cruiser from Mexico (Chetumal) to Guatemala (Tikal). We learned that the people there didn't have much use for whites. In Belize City, we had to go to the fourth hotel before we found one that would give us a room among other things. It was an interesting and educating experience. I imagine things may have changed since, especially if you are going a little upscale.
