Abdomen isn't shaped correctly, and the legs are too 'brawny' for a recluse.

Recluse spiders are actually pretty interesting to watch, they are clumsy and seem to 'bumble' around. Imagine how a spider would act, if it were drunk, that pretty much describes the way a Recluse might wander across the floor.

We've got a pretty dense population of Recluse in my house, they seem to prefer the basement over the rest of the house, but we occasionally find them in drawers and on counters. Since there's no real way to totally eliminate them, you just kinda learn to live with them. I always make a habbit of grabbing a flashlight, and examining the spider before we kill it, just to varify it as a Reclue.

Helpful hint on Recluse identifying. The 'fiddle' shape on the back isn't always well pronounced, and can be seen on many species of spiders. The best way to truly identify it is by the eyes. Recluse only have 6 eyes. 2 face forward at the front of the head, 2 face left on the side of the head, and 2 face right on the right side of the head. The abdomen is very smooth with fine hair and a nice elongated egg shape. They almost appear to have legs that are too long for their bodies, they don't spin webs, and generally like hanging out under and in things in cool damp climates. They generally aren't seen in daylight, as they are nocturnal.
