My son is 13 and my daughter is 9, here are a few rules at our house:

- no game consoles (each child has their own PC)
- no PC in the bedroom (they are all in the den)
- no TV in the bedroom (we have 1 family TV in the family room)
- no cellphones (until they can pay for their own)
- no pay for chores, cash may be earned by doing extra work
- eat what's on the table
- clean your own rooms, take care of your own stuff
- no friends in the house while we're gone
- no RAP (Hip-Hop, whatever) in the house
- no cursing or disrespect in any way will be tolerated
- no missing dinner with the family
- no problems at school will be tolerated
- no whining

That being said, my kids are great and are two of the most polite, loving kids you will ever meet.
