I just ordered 1" wheel spacers, the type you mentioned, and should have them by the end of this week. I am installing them on my 78SC with 7x16 Fuchs and 220 x 45 AVS Intermediates. I hear the AVS are wider than other tires. Give me a few more days and I'll let you know if the tires rub. I'm also installing 1/4 spacers on the front with my 6" Fuchs. I don't think that will have any effect on rubbing since guys are running 7's on the front.
