I went the opening Saturday in 2000 and it was an absolute blast! If I remember correctly, I think the liters were about $7.50 US equiv.
The only grumble that I had was that due to the huge crowds, it was difficult to get a beer in a timely manner. The kegs had been tapped for over an hour before we got our first one and than it was about once an hour when the beerfrau would come by to take orders.
Learned real quick, order 2 at the same time! Drank 7 liters in 5 hours and somehow remembered to tell the taxi driver where our hotel was.
