I agree with Rick, and would also add that you may just need to use Firefox a few days. As you load pages, it will save frequently used graphics/buttons/animations/etc. and will load them faster the next time they're used.
I have a garage computer too, and I'd be tempted to live out there if I could fit a microwave oven somewhere.
