Yes, it's a more aggressive grind than other 259 oilhead motors, but 'aggressive' by BMW standards is pretty mild by, say, muzzy standards
However, there's lots of other considerations, like relatively heavy valvetrain components and the fact this is NOT a real 'overhead cam' design. BMW errs on the side of reliability ehre; I'm sure youo can get significantly faster opening and closing cam events with more duration, but at what cost? reliability? 5000 miles between mechanical rebuilds? It's all a tradeoff..speed costs, how fast do you want to spend, and are you willing to give up mechanical reliability for mo-powah?
I've inadvertantly built hi-hp 'handgrenade' engines beofre; ti's all cool until that sickening sound of engine-destruction noise...RRRRRRRRRR-whap!!!, skid,skid,skid, splat, crash...then silence...then OH SH*****!!!!
