I think the newer valve covers are better and less likely to leak. Reuseable silicon gaskets are available.

CV joints are easy to deal with and you shoudl consider handling this yourself. they may just need repacking a re-booting. Replacement is even easier than that.

REplace every bushing you can find, like the spring plate bushings. I am going to have my rearend apart soon, and I will include caliper rebuild in my procedures. This does not take long and is an important maintenance procedure I think.
