You can definetly do that with a laptop. This is easiest if the laptop has USB 2.0. If so, your cheapest option is probably something like
this. I haven't used it, but it looks like it should get the job done. There should also be options out there for the older/slower USB, and for PCMCIA (though these will be more expensive).
The big chains (Fry's, Best Buy, CompUSA) may be able to help you. Online, Newegg (where I linked to above) is great, and the customer reviews on their products may help you out.
