Actually, from the few times I've ran into him (Elsinore and Eloy) he seems like a very normal/nice/sane guy. He is a very accomplished skydiver, and put himself on the skydiving "map" so-to-speak by doing those chute-less freefalls/harness-hanging canopy rides. I can assure you they are very real. Yes, he does get back into the harness prior to landing. Any landing without doing so would put you in the hospital or worse, especially at the high wing-loadings (and associated landing/descent speeds) that are very common today. You need to have full control of the "wing" (and be able to flare) when landing a parachute.
