Carbon Fiber doesn't bend (much) it just holds rigidly then snaps.

I take it you are thinking it's a lack of force absorption? All of the kinetic energy was transferred to the driver and passenger? Where-as a steel structured car with crumple zones would of softenned the blow, and perhaps spared the passengers?
