Thing is, I do contract work as well (own my own seat of SWx, among other stuff, too). But, I don't complain when a project is over. Finishing a project is what it's all about. ANd, the people paying the bill have ZERO obligation to keep you fed with more projects.
No doubt you were getting paid more than any of the "employee designers" . . .and for five years! More money/less security. . .that's the trade-off.
It's like you just made a coast to coast trip, averaging 95mph .... and your complaining that you got one ticket and a flat tire along the way.

I see your point and it's well taken. It's easy to become complacent and take it for granted. Even though it was a contact for 5+ years, it felt more like a job 'cause i was there most of the time working with a good group of talented people. that's what i'll miss the most....
