Ace reporter Denis H. checking in from Montreal, went to qualifying today. Actually, I'm not a very good reporter because I don't follow F1 or really know the first thing about it. But I was there. Burton(?) in a Honda qualified 1st, Schumacher 2nd, Alonzo(?) 3rd. I think.
Actually I ran like a MFer for the exits when it was winding down due to my claustraphobia. I don't do well in crowds of 200,000 under the best of circumstances, and with a track temperature record being set today, (50deg. C on the track),

, it was sort of like getting out of Saigon. Except that they were all speaking French and sweating like pigs. I nearly joined the rednecks today.
The speed of the cars is simply astounding, when they accelerate out of a corner the car twitches and seems for a moment like it wants to come apart, but then all of that energy is instantly transformed into forward motion.
And the sound: Each car sounds like 14 crotch-rocket motorcycles coming up your alley at the same time, except that the car is revving higher. Insane, ear-splitting, and absolutely wonderful!
I'll give a report tomorrow after the big race, unfortuntely my camera gave up the ghost but I will get pictures w/ someone else's and post them. I wore my Pelican shirt today, but it will need laundering before a re-use. Did I mention that the weather is disgusting? Until tomorrow, Au Revoire!
